Hi Andrew.... I work for King Richard's Faire as their public relations representative and it is fascinating that you are comparing two historically-based entertainment venues - very creative! There are two inaccuracies in your story, so please allow me to correct them. Like the other venue you reviewed, we have 80 acres of entertainment on eight stages, and also 1000 employees (cast and crew). We do not have characters that play "famous personages included Queen Elizabeth I, William Shakespeare, Francis Bacon, and Francis Drake" (wouldn't want disappoint any Shakespearean fans!). Thank you so much for being a fan and bringing your family to a wonderful New England tradition; an experience, as you correctly deemed, an "escape your reality" experience. See you next season (we open September 2, 2023!).
Julie, I appreciate your comment and clarifications. Thank you. The fact that both venues are in fact similar in performance-reenactment area and employee count enhances the intriguing overlaps between Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden and King Richard's Faire. We are two different, yet in many ways, not so different cultures and societies. You are absolutely correct that The Bard, Bacon, and others do not roam the Shire (oh, but what if they did?). My interest in mentioning them was to give context to that rich time in English history as point of comparison with Song China several centuries before. I do love KRF and look forward to returning in the future.
Andrew: Good call to divert our collective attention as we get closer to the chaos that most likely will follow upcoming midterm elections. And as usual you provided your readers a fascinating overview of the 2 historical recreations . . . Hal
Hal: The future of U.S.-China relations does unfortunately seem to be on an ominous course. It is important to remember that as people we do have common ground.
